Dear Readers,
Lately, I have slowed down in sharing my thoughts with you though my heart yearns to write more. Life has been busier on the personal front, but I cannot use that as an excuse to lose our connection. A small disclaimer: this post is not about Personal Finance.
This Diwali feels bittersweet for me. While my family is doing well, there is an unsettling heaviness in the world around us. The war continues unabated with loss of lives of innocent civilians including children and women. For those who have survived, access to proper medicine and treatment is scarce; food is limited and people are being forced to suffer from hunger. The rest of the world is watching hopelessly, showing their inability to stop war.
There are powerful countries who have political compulsions and then there are those who are indifferent because the war does not impact them. They call themselves great countries, occupying higher seats in the world organizations but are not able to stand up to their own moral responsibilities.
Our current world order and institutions aren’t structured to support compassionate and equitable living for all. Power and rights are unevenly distributed, leaving an ever-widening gap between those who have and those who do not. Meanwhile, we have amassed weapons of unimaginable destruction, capable of ending humanity in an instant. We must ask ourselves: what will stop an oppressed person or nation from taking the ultimate step of desperation? It is high time for nations to consider building a world that is fair, equitable, and values every human life.
At this moment, an urgent effort towards stopping the war is the need of the hour. This Diwali, let’s each of us light a diya and pray to Goddess Lakshmi to protect against any further loss of innocent lives.
Wishing you and your family a very happy Diwali!
